Andrei in 2006, when he was selected by the WPO (he was 12 years old)

Andrei IONITA (born in January 1994)
cello - ROMANIA

Since his father’s death, when he was 18 months old, he has lived alone in Bucarest with his mother, who earns 120 euros a month as an accountant.  She is not a musician.
He is an exceptionally gifted child and very mature for his age.
He began playing the piano at five and the cello at the age of nine.  He is an excellent student and earns grades of an average 18 or 19 in all subjects.
The WPO would like to have him compete in progressively more difficult European competitions so that he can develop his talents to a maximum degree and measure his performance against those of other gifted children.
